Nigeria: 25 years of democracy

On 12 June, according to BBC, Nigeria celebrated 25 years of democratic rule. A 2022 survey by the research organisation Afrobarometer found that 75 per cent of Nigerians were “not very” or “not at all” satisfied with democracy. However, the survey concluded that a majority of those surveyed preferred democracy to any other system of government. Nigeria was under military government from the 1960s and democratised in 1999.
