Somalia: Attack near Lido beach
On 3 August, at least 32 people were killed and 60 were injured in an armed attack near the Lido beach in Mogadishu. Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack. Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire stated: “The fact that the terrorist attack coincides with this night when the beach is the most congested shows the hostility of the terrorists to the Somali people.” The country has been fighting al-Shabab with the support of the US, the AU and other local armed groups for years.
