Sourina Bej

Sourina Bej is a doctoral candidate in the Department of South Asian Studies at the University of Bonn. She has received the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung European International Cooperation (KAS-EIZ) scholarship for her doctoral study on climate migration, sustainability, and resilience among the rural labour migrants from the ecologically endangered Bengal Delta in India.

She has worked as a Research Associate at the School of Conflict and Security Studies in the National Institute of Advanced Studies, India. As a young researcher, she has been a network builder for the International Peace Research Initiative (IPRI) supported by the KAS-India office. She has contributed to the research focus of the NIAS Europe Studies, supported by the KAS-India office; writing regularly on issues such as the BREXIT, radicalisation, energy crisis and right-wing populism in Western Europe. Apart from simultaneously publishing on strategic issues impacting Europe and India, her specific research expertise lies in examining climate migration processes, group identities, and political structures, primarily in South Asia. She has co-edited and authored a book wherein she documented the dam protest movements in the strategic Himalayan borderland of India and China.

Prior, she has also been a journalist at the Times of India, writing on cultures and identities among migrant communities in Tamil Nadu, India.
