Kenya: Doctors strike into fifth week

On 17 April, Africanews reported on the doctor’s strike entering its fifth week in Kenya. Hundreds of doctors and medical staff have protested demanding better pay and working conditions since March. A protesting medical staff member, Emmanuel Odhihiambo, stated: “We are not going to bow to any forms of intimidation and threats. And we are hereby saying today that we are going to continue picketing, we are going to continue our constitutional rights as per article 37 of the constitution.” The strike has left several patients without access to services. The government has not taken any action to address the concerns of the medical community. (“Kenya: Doctors begin fifth week of strike,” Africanews, 17 April 2024)
