Nvidia secures deals with South Korea’s top tech companies during Jenseng Huang’s trip to Seoul
On 08 June, Reuters reported that Nvidia announced a series of deals with South Korean tech giants, notably SK Hynix and Naver. The deals aim to secure crucial memory chips for global data centres and establish a multi year tecnology partnership. These agreements resulted from Nvidia’s CEO Jenseng Huang’s trip to Seoul. SK Telecom said it ‌would build ⁠a gigawatt-scale AI cloud in South Korea using Nvidia technology, with the first ai data centre to come online in 2027.

New York is awaiting for Governor's approval to ban data centres
On 08 June, New York moves closer to becoming the first official state to place a temporary ban on building data centres. The State Legislature has approved a year long ban or moratorium on facilities  powering AI boom. Katherine Gonsalves co-authored a bill that would temporarily ban “hyperscale” datacenters over 20MW. The Governor Kathy Hochul is yet to give approval . The moratorium largely targets datacenters built by “tech goliaths” and will not apply to facilities already possessing the necessary state permits. There are at least 28 large data centers being evaluated by the state for their impact on the grid.

China launches green computing hub, smart factories amid AI push
On 08 June, South China Morning Post reported that China established their first prefabricated energy hub for computing facilities and a four tier smart factory. It was launched in Qingdao, eastern Shandong province, the prefabricated base acts as the base of the computing centres by providing green power to run the massive facilities. It was being connected to data centres built by enterprises and set to be adopted by national-level computing facilities in the second half of 2026.
