Kenya’s first largest telemedicine project launched connecting 170 health facilities
On 28 May, Murang’a Digital Healthcare Access programme was officially launched which is the country’s largest public digital healthcare programme, connecting 170 health facilities through Starlink-powered satellite internet provided by Paratus Kenya(telecommunications and networks service provider). The initiative is expected to benefit around 1.2 million residents, particularly those in rural areas, and is regarded as one of Africa’s largest connected telemedicine projects. By combining telemedicine with digital health reporting, patients can access specialist consultations locally, while health workers submit real-time data from the field. The system improves disease monitoring, speeds up diagnosis and treatment, reduces travel requirements, and enables remote access to medical records and laboratory results. The programme supports Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage and digital health objectives.
