The US: SpaceX awarded 2.29 billion USD contract for military space data network
On 27 May, the US Space Force has awarded SpaceX a $2.29 billion contract to build the Space Data Network Backbone which is a secure, high-speed satellite communications network connecting military sensors and weapons platforms globally. The space data network backbone operates as a low Earth orbit satellite constellation that will move data from missile warning sensors to interceptors in near real time, forming a foundational layer of the Trump administration's Golden Dome missile defence initiative. A fully operational prototype is required by the end of 2027. The network will integrate with the Space Development Agency's existing Transport Layer, creating a unified military communications architecture. Additional contractors for satellite construction will be identified over summer 2026.

The US: SpaceX and Pentagon argue over price increase on Starlink network 
On 27 May,. Kamikaze drones guided by the Starlink network have made significant gains in the war against Iran. SpaceX officials have concluded that the Pentagon needs to pay more for their services. The argument revolved around how the Pentagon has been paying about 5000 USD for connection per terminal however using service worth closer to 25000 USD. Starlink’s use on LUCAS suicide drones also has caused the increase in tensions between SpacX and the Pentagon for the starlink pricing over the few months. This highlights the Pentagon’s  dependence on SpaceX giving it an upper hand over a critical layer of U.S National Security.
