About the Programme
On 30 September 2026, the Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) released the 10th edition of the Ocean State Report (OSR10), examining long-term changes in the global ocean and European regional seas. The report highlights the growing implications of the changes for coastal communities, marine livelihoods and climate adaptation. The report also provides a basis for examining the relationship between ocean science, societal vulnerability and governance.

Against this backdrop, NIAS Area Studies – Polar and Ocean Studies organises a multidisciplinary discussion on “The State of the Oceans in an Era of Climate Change: Science, Society, and Governance,” bringing together young scholars to critically examine the report’s findings and their wider implications.
